O'Keefe Arts was formed in 2007 as a Sole Proprietorship by artist John O'Keefe Jr. In 2012, He registered the business as O'Keefe Arts Limited Liability Corporation (LLC).

Initially set up as a place to purchase John's original oil paintings, the business expanded to offer high-quality Giclee reproductions on paper or canvas, with custom framing options. O'Keefe Arts LLC also sells ready-made and reproduction frames and framing hardware, "doing business as" (d.b.a.) Painting Frames Plus.

John O'Keefe Jr. is a self-taught artist who specializes in landscape oil painting. With a background in mechanical-electrical design and project management, John decided to start his own business in 2007. Initially, he offered only his original landscape oil paintings and expanded his offerings to include high-quality Giclee reproductions of his paintings. In 2012, the business grew again, including ready-made and custom painting frames, framing hardware, and custom engraved painting frame nameplates.
