ARTIST STATEMENT:

Hello,

Welcome to my first newsletter. The past two years have been very exciting since I started making the transition to painting full time. There is so much to do in addition to creating new paintings, for example, I operate and maintain two websites. (www.okeefe-arts.com and www.johnokeefe.net) There are exhibits and shows that I must plan for and I offer pigment print (i.e. Giclee) reproductions that require my time and energy. I have been fortunate to recently exhibit at some very prestigious galleries in Connecticut such as the Lyme Art Gallery, Mystic Arts Center, and the Cate Charles Gallery. I had works accepted into eight exhibits in 2008. Not bad for a relative beginner.

Currently I am one of the featured artists at the Lyme Art Association's, "17th Annual Associate Artists Exhibit" running from January 15 through February 28, 2009 at the Lyme Art Gallery in Old Lyme, Connecticut. This exhibit is an excellent start for 2009. Perhaps you can visit the gallery and view the exhibit if you are in the Old Lyme area.

Even though 2008 was a good year for me, my plans for 2009 are even more exciting. I will be expanding my exhibition entries nationwide in addition to continuing to pursue local opportunities within the State of Connecticut. I currently have seven large paintings (including one commission work) in development that I believe will be more beautiful than my previous paintings. I'm seeking to acquire commission work in 2009. And I am always working to expand and improve my painting skills in the area of Hudson River School style landscape painting. I hope you will continue to follow me on this journey.

Thank You,
John O'Keefe
